Phillis Wheatley was the first known African American poet and the first known female African American to publish a book. Her writings helped create African American Literature.
She was bought at 17 by the Wheatley family who taught her how to read and write. Many white Americans didn’t believe an African could write poetry so they examined Wheatley in court later concluding that the poems she wrote were hers.

I’m selfish, impatient, and a little insecure. I make mistakes. I am out of control and at times hard to handle.

I’m selfish because I have been taken advantage of in every way possible. From my body, mind, and even my pockets. So if I want to keep my body and save it now for my husband you won’t be offended will you? And if I want to save my money to build a better future you won’t mind will you?

I’m impatient because I’ve been waiting for little boys to grow up and become men, only to realize that they just don’t get it and its not my job to teach them. So now that I’m waiting for the Man that God has for me cause I’m tired of the children’s games, will you not talk to me?

I’m a little insecure. Yes, I know I am pretty but every now and then…”Its just one of those days!”…you know that a girl hours through? I’m a little insecure because of all the times I was told I wasn’t small enough. Now I’m no size 4 in fact if you add 10 to that you still won’t be close. I’m comfortable and an working hard to get in shape but if this size is my fate…then I’m ok.

Now I make mistakes with the best of them and if I’m upset I can get out of control. And sometimes with no explanation I can be hard to handle but with a little TLC I’m back to little ol’ me.

Now if you can’t handle me at my worst then baby you don’t deserve me at my best cause my best…my best…

My best will be there when the world feels like its crashing around you holding things up so they don’t hit the ground and fall apart.

My best will stand by your side. You know that “ride or die”? The one that will have your back no matter what.

My best is that unconditional love. That no matter what happens I will love you through it, even at my worst.

But you see my best deserves your best and if I can’t have that then you can’t have me cause…

I’m selfish, impatient, and a little insecure. I make mistakes. I am out of control and at times hard to handle. And if you can’t handle me at my worst, then you absolutely don’t deserve me at my best.

What’s the use? Why believe? Why not just walk away? Why not just forget about this faith thing? What not just forget about God?

We need your help!! To be brutally honest with you we’re not doing so well. We need to grow our fan page in order to reach more people. Some share the Gospel on television, radio, internet or paper ,we do it on cotton. We’re putting scriptures and faith messages in front of people who may never open a bible. If you like what we do then Please “Reblog” and help us grow.
